Lystgården

The Lystgården Foundation is a center for food and urban agriculture. Through JORD & BORD (soil and table), they work with both ecological and social sustainability. From the beginning of 2023, Lystgården has been a carbon remover with Down to Earth. They store the carbon themselves and actively use it in their own cultivation and activities.

Lystgården works with soil by operating the City Farmer in Bergen, which aims to inspire and provide knowledge about cultivation in neighborhoods, allotment gardens, schools, and businesses around Bergen and offers courses at Lystgården. Additionally, they aim to support entrepreneurs looking to start vegetable production in Vestland and have an incubator for market gardens.

For example, theThe foundation works with BORD by inviting people for long-table meals at Lystgården. Here, one can come alone or with others, at a flexible price, using local ingredients, often with a farmer or chef narrating the story behind the food. In this way, they connect people, shorten the distance between consumers and farmers, and put climate on the plate.

Additionally, they offer seasonal courses and events throughout the year under both themes. Lystgården's target audience includes everyone in Bergen.

The house is a protected and historic pleasure garden, with a large community garden open to the public and its allotment garden. Lystgården operates for all of Bergen and is part of the national network of centers working on urban agriculture.

It was the grassroots movement "Bærekraftige liv på Landås" (Sustainable Lives in Landås) that started Lystgården in 2017. Hence, Lystgården's perspective always comes from the angle of civil society, and volunteer efforts are a significant part of its operations. During the day, many also have their workplace at Lystgården. The Bærekraftige liv movement rents offices and uses the house for their events.
